2016 revit , structure, rebar placement

When I place column verticals using a type 4 or 33 bend (diagonal transition section and the splice length above the hosting member) the program places the transition and splice below the column. I have changed the orientation arrow as well as the major segment from D to B in the family editor, every combination I can think of and cannot get the change I'm seeking. The space bar shrinks it and it becomes even shorter than the host and wont return it to its original shape (cycling through the possible orientations).
I also noticed that in the family editor the segments have dimensions directly applied and appear to be random, very irregular lengths.
Just for clarity these are the shapes I've loaded from the revit library on board.
