Wire colors

My wires are automatically changing colors. I want to control this. There are no overrides in the view, (manual, filter, VV, or otherwise). Any thoughts?

Hi @Anonymous

Hope you are well. Smiley Happy

Below is a list of possible things which you can check/double check which will override Wire Colors:

Was the Object Styles possibly changed?

Manage Tab >> Settings >> Object Styles (Next to Materials) >> Model Objects >> Wires (Right at the bottom). Clear/Change overrides. (Different from VV overrides).

Then, check to see if your Wires Category wasn't accidentally checked with another filter which has been applied to the view. e.g. - You have a Red Color filter for all your "Lighting Fixtures Category" and the "Wires Category" was accidentally checked when setting up your Lighting Fixture Filter.

Other than that, you already mentioned that you check your VV and no overrides were assigned to Wires, then just check the above-mentioned and let me know if it resolved your issue.

I hope this helps! Smiley Happy

Thank you for the quick reply. This did not resolve the issue. To be more descriptive, I found this on accident. When I connected a wire to a VAV box, the wire turned green. In the same view, I connected a wire to a receptacle and the wire was black.

It seems the color of the wire may be depend on the family or type of family?

I think you need to edit the VAV family and see what type of connector it has.  Is it a standard electrical power connector?  Or does it have something different like a data connector?

If that doesn't give you an answer, I think you will have to do some troubleshooting.  Is it only wires connected to VAV's that change color?  Or only wires in that view?

Try making a new view and see if it still has the same problem.  Try connecting to another HVAC family.  Same problem or not?

Let us know what you find.  I've never see wires change color depending on what they are connected to, but it would be useful to know if that is possible and how to make it happen.

Sounds like the mechanical equipment families duct system Filter has been set to control the Wires or electrical circuit category as well?

if you are referring to the filters in the VG dialog box, there were none applied to that view.

Yes, I believe you are right. How do I control this? I have access to this project again.

If it's a filter:

Have a look at the Filters for the View.  highlight one and press Edit, check the categories it is set to affect, if Wires is on the list remove the tick from the box then Save a few times and it should no longer be applied.

If you can work out which Filter is affecting the Wire colour before you start looking at every Filter one after another, that would save you some time.

If it's not a filter:

Check the Wire line colour setting next to the Category in V/G. Clear the overrides and you should be good to go.

You probably checked off Electrical as a sub discipline in your Model Categories.
