Why are elements being deleted when linked model is changed??

Hello! Frustrated! Revit 2018...the architect deleted rather than moved a wall and though I would expect elements hosted to the wall in our MEP model to be orphaned, the 5 junction boxes with all associated circuiting are DELETED from our MEP model.  WHY would it deleted these elements when they simply lost their linked host??  I wouldn't have even known except I looked at the error log and searched for the ID numbers of the elements listed as deleted.  I don't remember this ever happening in 2019 but we are stuck on 2018 due to architect.  Can anyone help me?  THANKS!

They shouldn't be deleted unless someone told Revit to delete them during the coordination review.

What exactly do you need help with?

Just want to avoid having this reoccur - the dialog box that opened with the error report didn't ask if the elements could be deleted - it simply listed them as having been deleted.  I'm just wondering if there was some quirk in this version that would allow this to happen - typically I'll have occasional orphaned elements, but deletion without choosing this action worries me about what i might miss in our documents (we're in construction phase and when we have changes I have to issue to the field guys).

That message is misleading unless you are seeing something that I've never seen. It is referring to the wall, not your devices. Did you verify that your elements were in fact deleted?

This is an age old issue with items hosted to linked models. Ideally they should just be orphaned if the hosting element is deleted, which is what normally happens. Unfortunately with some element types, "Delete" is the only option Revit gives you. This has gotten better in some of the newer versions, or at least I haven't heard about it as much from my engineers :-).

It took me 2yr to beat it into the Architects in my office to not Delete elements if you are just going to place another one in its place. Just change the type. It would be nice if Revit would acknowledge that even though the element ID of the hosting element changed, there is still a Wall/Face there. Then ask if you would like to rehost it or do it automatically.

I just opened one of my 2019 2017 models to see if i can replicate it....

if I select the warning and pick Delete Instance, it will delete the receptacle.

Clearification.... if you pick "Delete Instance(s)", they do not appear to be deleted. If you pick a check box and pick the "Delete Checkd..." the the elemets will be deleted.

Thanks for all the responses - I've been working in Revit since ? 2012 and I've never seen this either.  I can't explain it, yes, it lists ID #s for deleted elements (5 junction boxes in our model) for which it did not ask me to make a decision as to whether or not they should be deleted!  There are only 2 of us in the office who use Revit - the ONLY thing I can think of now that you are saying you've never experienced it either is that EVEN THOUGH he says he did not click anything upon the loading of the modified Arch link, that perhaps my coworker elected for them to be deleted...but you have to make a conscious decision in that regard and IF that were true, why did I receive an coordination error report upon my reopening - i've only ever had that show up on the initial reopening after a linked file was updated.  It's a mystery and I wish I had saved a screen shot to show that there were no toggle boxes to check that anything should be deleted, it just stated that the elements were deleted and when I search for the ID numbers they no longer exist in the model.  I  will mark this solved and if it happens again I will repost.  Thanks for all the comments.

Amen to that!  I am marking yours as resolving this though it's not precisely what I experienced (though yes I've been through many years of that!)  Hopefully it's an anomaly and the result of an inner-office misunderstanding somehow.

If I remember correctly, the ID's listed in the warning are for the deleted elements, not the elements that are hosted to them.

Scratch that. It lists both.
