View Reference Family not loading into project

Howdy,

I've created a view reference family via a multiple category template, and then changing it to view reference. It has 2 types (See View Reference Smart) and when I attempt to load it into a project, I can find it in the project browser under Annotation Symbols. However, when I select a view reference the only option is the regular system family.

To see if I used the wrong template, I tried again this time starting with editing the system family and doing a Save As with a different name. However, this had the same results as my first attempt. (See View Reference Bypass)

Both will not be placed in any drafting view I use them on, including if I drag a type in from project browser.

What am I missing? Is there a setting somewhere I've missed? Most of the info related to similar issues were old enough to reference a view reference template, which I don't think is in more recent versions of Revit.

PS: Using Revit 2023 and attached are copies of the two families.

You have to specify the family to be used for your view reference. Select the existing view ref. Click Edit Type and select the family you want to use within the type parameters.
