View Range in Family Editor

I just realized there is no way to adjust the view range when looking at a floor plan or a reflected ceiling plan in the family editor.

Why is that?  And exactly what how is the view range in the family editor determined?  Does changing the working plane affect the view range?

Some element only show up on the floor plan, while other items only show up on the ceiling plan.  And some elements may not show up on either, which can be a real pain.

Most people ask before claiming something like that.

You can set view properties by selecting the view in the properties drop down list under the type selector.

I swear it wasn't there earlier.   But now I see what is going on.

In a project file, you can just click on blank space in any view, and the view properties become active so the View Range is available.

In the family editor, you have to specifically select and highlight the view in the project browser to make the View properties (and the View Range) available in the properties window.  Clicking a blank space in the view brings up a set of different properties.

I hit that bump in the road with one of my first families. It was kind of one of those ah ha moments for me. Ya know, when a realization trickles down to a bunch of other things?

What?  That doesn't look right at all.   That's supposed to be different family types in that drop down, not door families and floor plans!!  Are you sure you didn't photoshop that? 😊

I've been using Revit for at least 15 years.  But sometimes I still feel like a newbie.
