Updating Classification Tables

Hello,

I am looking to update the uniclass 2015 classification tables that are currently dated back to April 2021, but I am not sure how to do this correctly in a way that Revit will understand the new information.

first I downloaded the current table in my model (April 2021) & then sourced the new tables from the NBS website (July 2023). first thing I noticed was the table from Revit is set out differently to the NBS table.

Would anyone be able to tell me how I would go about taking the information from the NBS table & placing it in the Revit one?

Can anyone explain the Level & Revit category columns to me please?

I would actually push this back to Autodesk and let them update the file, since they include it with the deployment. One issue I've seen happen is when a users "sorts" the text file in Excel, but then the relationship with element/function/description parameters (the critical component) gets lost or aligned with the wrong objects. Also - make sure you only save this in a TXT file format as well, don't upgrade it to XLSX.

Hi

You should ask your reseller to help you for this one.
They can elevate this issue back to autodesk.

This way you are sure you're not going to mess things up.

Hi,

There's 2 parts to your post. "How to edit the uniclass table and what does the level & category columns mean".

  1. You dont have to modify the NBS excel file. Graham H Stewart and his team at Digital Guerilla already run through this process for free, anyone can simply download the updated version from them.
Downloads – we are Digital Guerrilla (digital-guerrilla.scot)
  2. If you do want to know how these tables work. There should be an instructions tab at the start of your existing Uniclass table.
    1. The categories are associated to Revit categories by linking a number listed on the front page "Instructions". Think of this as a filter. If you select a Pipe object, the interoperability tools will filter all uniclass table information based on what has been nominated against the excel category "Pipe" Which you would already know, but it does this by looking up the number against the category. In this case you would enter -2008044

    2. Levels: Really easy, its how many fields are there between each underscore.

Hopefully that all makes sense.
