Unwanted element visible from nested family

Hi,

I searched the Autodesk forum but couldn't find a match to my problem.

I'm a mechanical engineer and create family's for the company I work for. This time I made a Duct Fitting family called 57_IDG_Prefab standleiding middenstuk with some nested family's. Everything works, that's not the problem. The problem is when I load the 57_IDG_Prefab standleiding middenstuk into a project, it shows a little vertical line next to it. After some research I discovered that the nested family's 57_IDG_vloerhuls i causing it. I think it's the height dimension but still i can't manage to find it and solve it.

Could someone here take a look at it and tell me how to solve it?

Thanks in advanced!

From your screenshot, what seems strange to me is that you have the family placed three times but only see one line. If it is a family problem I would expect to see three lines.

I had a quick look but can not seem to reproduce the issue. Maybe you can upload the relevant part of the project (Revit version?) where the issue occurs?

Correct. I only posted 1 of the 3 family's. Here's a project (RVT 19) with all 3 family's.

I changed the family 57_IDG_Vloerhuls nested family in to non shared, and then it dissapeared. I can't remember why I once made thes family shared. I have to find out again in the future what for trouble it will give me.

But still I can't figure out why it dissappeared when i change it to non-shared..

It is a weird issue, look like a bug to me. I did some testing and found the following. The issue is indeed in the NLRS_57_DUF_UN_vloerhuls_IDG.rfa

In that family you have connectors These connectors inside the project will create a centerline. For some reason this centerline is completely out of place. You can test this inside your project when you go to visibility graphics overrides and switch off the sub-category "centerline" from the category "duct fittings" the line should dissappear.

There seems to be several solutions to get rid of this line in the view (not extenmsively tested):

1-As mentioned in visibility graphics overrides hide the centerline subcategory from duct fittings.

2-Remove the duct connectors from the NLRS_57_DUF_UN_vloerhuls_IDG family.

3-Remove the shared setting from NLRS_57_DUF_UN_vloerhuls_IDG.

It looks like the sharing of this family creates this weird behavior.

You also might try to remodel this NLRS_57_DUF_UN_vloerhuls_IDG family and see if the behaviour dissappears

See which works best for you.

Hi Louis,

Thanks for the suggestions. Will definitely try it. As I mentioned, the sharing had a reason long time ago. So long ago I don't even remember. Maybe remodeling the family is the best option for it.

Thanks for the help!
