Troubleshooting Camera Family Visibility Issue

I ran into an issue this morning with a camera family in Revit. No matter what I did (worksets, view range overrides, etc.), I couldn't get the camera family to show up in the view. I asked my PL (project lead) and he told me that the family would only show up if it was hosted to a ceiling. Sure enough, it worked.

Afterwards, I went through the family trying to figure out how they set it up to only show on a ceiling. I didn't see any specific option in the family editor that would make this happen. Then, I remembered that ceiling templates are a thing. Is that how it's done? If so, can I change the template orientation after the family has been made?

What do you mean by template? Family, view, project?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
