Transfering Parameters Information via Pipe Conections

Hello,

 

I know Revit can transfer the "Fixture Units" parameter conection by conection for the whole system, but, any way of transfering a custom parameter via pipes conections too?

 

For example, the next tube "receives" the length parameter of the previous one, I do a sum with it's length and It will be passed until the end of tubes.

Don’t think this can be done.

Can you not get the information that you need from a pipe schedule organised by system and with totals activated for lengths?

You cannot "transfer" other than Mechanical info throughout your system. Connectors are primarily logical entities that allow calculating loads within a project. So that the only geometrical data assigned to the pipe connectors is the Radius/Diameter (similar to Height/Width for rectangular ducts).

 

I guess you are looking for a kind of Reporting Parameter, but you cannot add it to Pipes as they are not loadable families like it would do a Structural Framing beam, for example.

 

What are you trying to achieve? The community will help you to find the workaround for your goal.

I'm working with residential cold water systems, and I'm trying to set up Revit to help me auto calculating values.

 

Look at this plumbing system that I created as an example:

Revit retrieves me the critical path showing me the most pressure drop path, in this case for the "A -> 32 FU". I can see more of the details when I generate the "Pipe Pressure Loss Report", but it results on the sum of pressure loss for the critical path only.

My problems:

 

1- I can't get the Pressure Loss Report for the other Fixtures (unless I sum one by one manually).

On the example, the shower is positioned at a higher base level distance than the toilet, and it also needs to be analyzed to determinate if the water pressure is enough on it.

 

2- I can't get the length of tubes for each path.

I could generate tables with the length being sum, but I could not make it sum based on pipes' path. Only for the whole system.

 

3- Revit uses Flow and Pressure Drop calculation methods different that I need. Sometimes the results are around 25% different from using my country calculation methods.

 

 

I would appreciate any help.

Firstly make sure you are using the fixture units and flow conversion method correctly based on the IPC.

Revit does not make any allowance for static pressure caused by elevation differences and the only way that I can think of to do this simply would be to add the equivalent loss, based on a chosen datum, to each fixture or to a pipe accessory in the branch which feeds the fixture. E.g. a basin on the lowest story would have say 8000 Pa (800mm water gauge) added, the shower would have say 15000Pa (1.5m water gauge) added, basin on next story would have say 38000Pa (3m + 800mm) added etc.

It will however still only tell you the critical path which would normally be the only path of interest.

Very clever your idea.

I inserted the loss inside the fixture connector in the family and it worked very well. Now the System Inspector is showing the shower as the critical path.

 

I tried to link the loss and the connector height, but Revit didn't allowed me warning "Inconsistent Units".

My shower connector is at 2.15 meters from the ground and I wanted to get this value of 2.15 m as 2.15 MCA (meters of water column) to use it as the loss.

Can it be done? Any code to convert the variable units?

Revit is just trying to be consistent with the Units but you can "hack" that by simply dividing by the unwanted unit and multiplying by the desired unit.
