Structural plan

I am adding ductwork to a structural plan with a pdf as a background. I am pretty much copying the ductwork on the pdf and adding it to the structural plan, What I want to do is once I export the structural plan to a pdf I want the ductwork to stand out and the structural plan to be halftone. How can I do that without having to select everything and going one by one and making it halftone?

First question is why are you adding Duct work to a Structural Model vs having your own Mechanical model?

Next.... if your not doing so already, make a new Plan View for your Mechanical work. Then, in your Mechanical View, set the discipline to Mechanical.  The Structural should automatically halftone.

The architect just sent over the structural model and not the Mechanical model. I have to use what I have.

So like a new floor plan?

Wait, what? You seem to be contradicting yourself.

Try breaking it down a bit. Describe what you have. Then explain what you are doing with what you have. Then explain what the desired result should be.

Before you post all that, make a view to use for printing and have a look at the Visibility Graphics Overrides settings. That is where you can do what you need in order to print it the way you want.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Yeah sorry, I am not that well at explaining myself. I apologize.

Okay so I have a structural model from an architect, he didn't want to share the mechanical, so I have PDF's of the ductwork the engineer put in the mechanical model. What I did was import the PDF into the structural model and pretty much I am copying the pdf, I am just placing duct over it. I hope that makes sense?

What I am trying to do is make the 2D structural model halftone so the ductwork stands out. When I plot the plan I need to be able to show our guys out on the field the ductwork and have the structural model in the background still visible but halftone. Make sense?

I hope I explained myself better...

Yep.... must make a new Floor Plan in the Structural model and set the discipline in that Floor Plan View to Mechanical.  you may need to go to your Options, select User Interface and make sure the Systems Mechanical tools is checked. otherwise you wont get a Floor Plan option.

I Checked and I don't have the option to create a Mechanical view.

You make a Floor Plan.... Then, in the properties of the new view, set the Discipline to Mechanical.
