I am looking for resolution to an issue i'm having.  I have tried to bring a family in from manufacturer website and i am getting the following error when trying to load.  "The shared parameter "eb8052e8-d47c-4de2-992a-5b7f89756df4" cannot be added with name "Product Page URL" and type "Text" because it conflicts with the existing name "Product Page URL" and type "URL"."  Can any one help out with this issue.  I am using Revit 2018

There are 2 issues here:

1.  You have 2 shared parameters with identical names.

2.  Theirs is of the format "text" and yours is of the format "URL."

If you have their (downloaded) shared parameter file you may be able to edit it by opening the downloaded family and using Manage>Shared Parameters>[Navigate to Downloaded txt file.]  From there you can rename their version of the parameter to something unique - and change it to URL if you want.

If you do not have their downloaded shared parameter file, go thru the same process but create another shared parameter (text format) in your list and rename it something unique like "Product Page URL-text"

Remember, we are talking about "shared" parameters, and not OOTB parameters.  If you choose to make the 2 parameters match, you may get into trouble.  Revit will create a unique parameter without renaming it creating massive confusion for years to come.  You will have 2 identical columns in your families and schedules, and not know which is which.  The improper format issue may have saved you.

Do you have a project parameter with the same name?  If so, open the family and rename the offending parameter (or rename yours), or just remove it and replace it with your parameter.

I always use the same process when dealing with Manufacturers families.

I download them open them save as into a folder for review

open them and save as into a working folder- strip out anything that does not comply with our company standards.

shared Parameters are typically the first to get updated to suit our schedules and tagging.

some Manufacturers overdevelop their families to suit a higher level of Development than a design firm may need.

regardless of the version
