schedule not displaying length

In my schedule the length setting is not displaying if I uncheck the "itemize every instance" box. It works fine if I do itemize every instance though. It's flex pipe if that matters. I feel like I have read something on this but I can't find it.

If you uncheck "itemized every instance" then all the rows will lump into one row based on you Sorting fields.  For example if you Sort by Type only then all Instances of the same Type will become one row.  So, if you need to see different Length then add Length as one of your Sort fields.

that was my goal was to get them all into one line. I sorted them by family since they are all the same family but it doesnt display the length. my goal is to get the sum total length of all the flex pipe in the model.

Add Length as the second Sort field.  If you don't then you have different Lengths in one row, and Revit makes it blank.

In this case, Go to Formatting tab, select Length and set it to Calculate Total.  Then the cell will show the total Length.

well that sucks because they are all different lengths lol.  I suppose now my question is how do i get the total length of all flex pipe in the model? I could export to excel then do a formula there but id rather just do it in revit.
