Saddle connection family fitting

Hi,

I'm trying to create a model of a saddle connection, like the one below:

Currently my family has 3 connectors and once placed on the pipe it works just fine and lets me to draw another pipe going upwards, it even has a rotation parameter. The only issue is that once applied it splits the pipe. I've tried to delete these two connectors and set the family based on the reference line, but it connects with the third connector instead.

What else I tried was to create a face-based model which can be placed directly on the external face of the pipe, but this way it's impossible to set this element perfectly vertically.

My question is: is it possible to set the connector to not split the pipe once applied? Or does anyone has an idea how to solve this issue?

Revit in their library has some tap fittings (look for words like branch, spud). See how they are build.

Also the duct section has some tap fittings in the library.

 

Also note that the MEP families has some settings how the connectors work in the family. Note that this might influence the flow in the system

@L.Maas thanks for the reply.

I've looked up for mentioned families but unfortunately couldn't find any in basic Revit ENU library, just one called M_Branch Connection, which doesn't give me any answer. I as well tried playing with Part Type category, with no luck whatsoever.

Would it be possible for you to attach mentioned branch family, file location or a content to download? Are you familiar with any model of this kind?

@iainsavage yes, that's a right source and exactly the model I was looking for. As I see 2 connectors are needed: the first one placed on the origin reference with the offset of main pipe radius and the second one for the side pipe. I will implement this solution, thanks!
