Rotating point of family in project is out of object, also i need to select large area when trying to select that object from left to right

EDIT: I uploaded that family

 

Hi everyone.

So I created long radius elbow following this video

Everything went good but when i loaded created family into project and tried to select it from left to right it didnt work and i had to select bigger area

Also when trying to rotate that family , rotation point is out of object

You would need to upload the family for a definite answer but it sounds like some of the geometry in the family is far away from the actual fitting.

Please upload the family.

 

PS: I didn't watch your video but the attached document should help you when creating fitting families.

Hello Adam,

Revit Families determine there rotation point by calculating the middle point of the furthest drawn geometry and Reference Lines.
Revit also uses these geometries and Reference Lines to determine their bounding box.

You should take the following steps to fix this:

 

  • Make sure all Reference Lines are within the scope of your center defining geometry or Reference Lines.
  • Create a Reference circle around your wished centerpoint and make sure its outside all other geometry and reference lines used by the family. (You can even make this parametric)
  • Bonus tip, link the connectors from your revit family.

I have attached a version I tested there you can see what it should look like.

Can I ask - why are you needing to rotate the family? Are you placing it manually in the model?

If you include it in the routing preferences for the pipe type it should orientate itself automatically and you won't need to rotate it.

 

PS: you don't need to link the connectors as suggested by @Sefanja_Verkaik - that only applies to Global connectors, not to those classified as Fitting. Official help says "Linked connectors only have an effect when the System Type is set to Global, which is common for fittings and in‐line components such as dampers, valves, and pumps"

I looked around and found what you are talking about. I tested it trough as well. For Bends/Corners and Unions/Transition there doesnt seem to be an issue linking the connectors or unlinking them. However when I tried to dislink my connectors in my T pieces Revit will get confused and wont let me model T connections.

What is your take on this? I have trouble figuring out when or even if to link these connectors. Or am I doing something wrong with my T connections?

Interestingly I opened a couple of out of the box tees and you are correct, they have the straight through connectors linked.

So the Autodesk help seems to be misleading.
