REVIT MEP 2019 | ATTEMPTING TO INSERT A MITSUBISHI CASSETTE FAN-COIL PLFY-P32-40-50-63-80-100-125VBM-E

Hi,

I use AutoCAD MEP successfully, and I have used AutoCAD since 1996, so I am likely to have an AutoCAD head on when using terms.

I live in the U.K. and I am fairly new to Revit MEP I am trying to insert a Mitsubishi cassette fan-coil  PLFY-P32-40-50-63-80-100-125VBM-E into the ceiling grid — 600mm × 600mm at the offset of 2,700mm — but without success.

Having loaded the family into the project, I click on the “Systems” tab › “Mechanical” panel › “Mechanical Equipment” button, go into the “Properties” dialogue box and select the cassette fan-coil size that I want, PFLY-32VBM-E_240V_50Hz and the “Modify | place Mechanical Equipment” contextual tab comes up.

I am now ready to locate the cassette fan-coil into the ceiling grid, but it shows me the no go sign 🚫.

I have tried to insert it in ceiling plan view, elevation view, and 3D view, but all show that same sign.

Can someone help please?  Many thanks in advance.

Tim.

Is the architecture in a linked project?

I’ve had similar problems with Mitsi and Daikin families which are ceiling hosted - you can’t insert a ceiling-hosted family into a ceiling which is in a linked project, the ceiling must be in your own model.

Yes it is.

Right, I will try that then.

Many thanks.  😊

If you open the family it should tell you what type of hosting it uses.

I am new to the idea of “hosting”.  It’s not making that much sense at the moment.  I will take a look.

Thanks.

I don't know if these are same families - I just pulled them down from MEPContent.com

This one has no hosting so just floats in space - you should be able to place it anywhere. You could also tick the Work Plane-based option and then you can place it on a named workplane (using the workplane to simulate a ceiling).

This one is face-based and has to be attached to  a face of another element (ceiling usually). This family just seems to be the ceiling decor panel though not the actual cassette unit.

When placing face-based families make sure that you select the correct orientation - the default is vertical so you would need to change to horizontal to host onto the face of a ceiling (and check in 3D or section that you have it the correct way up because a ceiling has two faces, one on top and one on the bottom)

Funnily enough, host was ‘ceiling’.

I inserted the cassette fan-coil into the architectural and it located it successfully!

Many thanks.  😊

Now I will find out if the ducting can be drawn in to the cassette fan-coils successfully in the mechanical!  That could be fun!  😂

If your architectural is a link, you won't be able to connect to it.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Why don't you go to mepcontent.com and download the same families which I did? They are not ceiling based and can be used in your own model even if the architecture is linked.

Many thanks for that.  I’ll try that.

@Anonymous Here is a "quick" tip when downloading MEP content that is not face-hosted.

Create new project, model some basic walls, a floor and a ceiling. Save it out somewhere convenient and let's call it "Hosted". Create a second model and link in the first model you created. Create a floor plan and RCP, save it and let's call it "Face-Based". When you download something that is not face-based, place it in the "Hosted" model, save and close. Now open the "Face-Based" model. On the Collaborate Tab, select Copy/Monitor, select the link than select the family you placed. Once this family is copied into the "Face-Based" project it gets converted from a wall, ceiling or floor hosted family to Face-Based. Now you can save the family out and place it in your MEP models without needing to add a live wall, ceiling or floor. I hope this helps you with future content downloads.

You can also convert the ceiling hosted family to face based if you like.
