You can exclude certain elements by employing Filters. Under the Schedule's Properties, go to the Filters tab. Here, you can create logical conditions to exclude the undesired information. You can use a number of possible methods to accomplish this, such as: Filtered by: "Family Name", does not contain "[unwanted text]". I would be able to give you some more specific information if you can provide a little more detail.

CADasthrope, I thought it would be as easy as you describe. However I'm encountering a frustrating situation.

I have a wall schedule from which I need to exclude all CURTAIN walls. I thought same as you: just filter out any family or type containig the name "curtain". Well it turns out that the filtering options DO NOT show "Type" nor "Family name or type".

I  had to go to EACH one of my curtain wall types to:

  1. Enter"Curtain wall" text in the "TYPE COMMENTS" field (not very revit-ish, having to do this manually for each type)
  2. Go back to the schedule and add the TYPE COMMENTS field
  3. Finally filter out all fields containing the "curtain wall" text in the Type Comments field.

I would like to read your opinion on this.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, the inability to filter schedules by family or type is infuriating.  however, you don't have to leave the schedule to make that change - just add "type comments" or "type mark" to your schedule, add the value you want to filter by right there in the schedule, then create the filter.  Or find some other characteristic unique to curtain wall assemblies that's already in your schedule and use that as your filter logic.

I had made some Typical Assemblies using Mechanical Equipment, and the Pipes & Pipe Fittings..
1-Now the Mech-Equip-ASLY can generate views as per the First Time they were created, and can be copied without creating a "New name given" warning.. or making multiple copies of the same asly.. it's working fine for me as long as there are no pipe / duct / fitting components..
2-Now the issue for assemblies using either Duct / Pipe / Fittings / Accessories etc, always create a copy of the Asly with a unique name making a huge list in the schedule too.. So thanks to the suggestions given above, I am currently circumnavigating the issue by creating a First Asly with the Name "Sample-XXXX" and all subsequent copies with their proper name "XXXX(1,2,n...)" and they show up in the Schedule as individual items, and i can exclude the "Sample-XXXX" using the "Contains filter".. And i then extract the Views for Fabrication from the "Sample-XXX" Only, and use it as Typical Detail..
I hope that Revit comes up with a smart solution to this..
Another Issue i encountered was that if I rotate any Asly View in the Sheet, the Text, Dimensions all go wonky in accordance to the original orientation.. Hence the above solution to create a sample asly to overcome this problem too..
It's just that I need to either hide them (Element Hide) or keep them in a separate space in the project outside the Crop View Boundary..

Any better solutions are welcome..

I think your post should probably be re-posted as a new topic about assembly behaviour because its not really related to the title or content of this post - you're more likely to get attention and an answer if you have a post with a more relevant title.
