Pipe Colours

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to find an easy way to achieved pipes and fittings in different colors, something like the attached which was created by highlighting each item and then I did a screen shot of it just to demonstrate what I would like to see.

Any thoughts please?

Ideally, I just want to highlight say a single pipe, or fitting, or group of the same, to identify them easily on the drawing for those reading the drawing.

I would also like to be able to use a number of different colors on a drawing too if that's also possible.

Thanks for any help.

Paul

Hi,

I believe there is one way you can Easily make filter of selection,  Select those elements Pipe fitting's etc. which you want show in different color and go to view tab -> Filters -> New Enter the name which you want to color defined example Item No-01Pipe Legends.PNG

Thanks for that and one of those links is for a post I made a year ago on the same subject but I never got it to work so gave up.

I couldn't get the Colour Splasher to work either.

Oops Sorry Paul,

Based on That Filter you can Add filter and assign color on Visibility graphic Pressing VG OR go to View tab-> Visibility/graphic -> Filter -> Add -> Select and Press ok Set Color Lines and patterns I hope this Picture will help you to Understand Below

Thanks and I got as far as selecting the filter and making the surface a solid red and the cut too but the pipe still hasn't changed colour.

Maybe I haven't identified the filter with the bit of pipe I want to change the colour?

I'm still a beginner at this so please bear with me.

I might need a step by step instruction as this is where I got to last last year before giving up 😞

Thanks

Hi,

I assume you had a look at the attachment for what I am trying to achieve.

This is where I'm at......

Selected a pipe that I want to change a colour.
View tab
Graphics
Filters
Name (heating)
Define criteria
Selected categories (pipes & piping systems)
Then I'm stuck at Filter Rules

Then went to Visability and Edit/New and selected heating
Selected categories (pipes & piping systems)
Then I'm stuck at Filter Rules

Set the projection/surface pattern to a solid colour red
Selected the pipe again and went to visibility and selected heating
No change in pipe colour

And then I have no idea what to do or even if the above was correct.

HI Paul,

I Really Apologies for not Mention Revit Version I supposed to Mention Before what i explain to you in Upper side that works only for Revit 2016 it will not work for Revit 2017

if you are using Revit 2017 Follow steps

1. Select Those Elements

2. Go to Manage Tab-> Slelction Panel -> Save Selection-> Enter Name of System OK

3. Go to Visibility/Graphics Press "V V" -> Filter Tab-> Add-> You will find all those items you saved with the name (no need to go more further inside category or filter Rules)

4. After Addition Enter color and Solid Pattern

Hi Furquan,

No need to apologize, you are helping me for free and I really appreciate it.

I only have 2015 and 2016 at the moment and it's 2015 that I am trying to change the colours in.

Do you have directions please for 2015?

Thanks

Paul

edit pipe color.JPG

@Anonymous

if you are referring to changing the color of the pipe by system, you can edit them through family editor:

Families--> Piping Systems -->  Piping System --> (pick your system) -->

Type Properties dialog box will open.  on "Graphic Overrides" line, pick the "Edit..." button.

Line Graphics dialog box will open.  on "Color:" line, pick the "<No Override> button.

Color Dialog box will open.  pick your color. click ok and work your way backwards clicking ok until all three dialog boxes are closed.

your pipes, by system, should change to color you chose.

I'm going to have to apologize in advance.  I'm working on R17 MEP with Sysque, but I'm hoping these instructions still work.  good luck!

Thanks for that and I already know how to change the colour of a whole pipe system.

What I was trying to do was pick a single pipe in a plant arrangement and change it's colour so as to highlight just that pipe.

I would have thought that I would have been able to change how something looked just on that view.  A bit like when you select a pipe it goes blue but like permanently in a colour I choose.

Maybe this feature just doesn't exist.

Select the elements, right click, override graphics in view, set accordingly.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Thanks but that doesn't work in REVIT 2015.  I have tried this before and all it does is change the colour of the lines either side of the pipe and not the body of the pipe.

Hi @stevenson953,

Could you check your email or private message to discuss further?

I think we can have a remote session to get this done.

Thank you.

This is an odd one,

If I had to change some of the pipes but not the whole system, I would make a filter that selections the categories wanted, then filter by the Comments parameter>Equals>"color wanted". I would name the filter based off that color. Then when I add the filter I would set my project line and fill color over rides.

I've done something similar to this for a presentation, while preserving my defaults.

Thanks for the help and I did try setting up a filter without much luck.  Probably because I didn't know what I was doing!

Autodesk got in touch with me directly and they tried to do what I wanted via a share screen and they couldn't get it to work either.

They now have the file and are working on a solution.

I'll post any solution they come up with.
