Pipe clamp witout breaking pipe

Hello to all

I want to make a family of pipe clamp, that fits the pipe Ø but does not break the pipe.
Is this possible?

Thanx in advance

Here's a possible solution

You could try this

Attached are some families which I sourced and work reasonably well.

However it doesn't seem to be as straightforward as you might think and it can be a bit hit or miss getting the clamps to attach in the correct orientation etc - the attached families seem to work best if you insert them in coarse or medium quality views so that the clip finds the centreline of the pipe rather than the outside face of the pipe. The families are also Generic Models.

@fabiosato has a video explaining how to  use the "attaches to" option for pipe accessories but I couldn't get it to work for pipe clips, only for sensors etc.

thank you for your reply, do you think there is also a possibility of making it fit the pipe without using dynamo?

kind regards

@Anonymous

Unfortunately, if you want to use clamps with connectors in order to fit the pipe diameter, it will split the pipe.

I recommend using one of the clamp families without any connectors. This will leave the pipe as one entity and for modeling, it is better. I know you shall select the pipe diameter manually but it is your only solution if you don't want to use Dynamo.

There are also several videos on Youtube which might help you. Type something like Revit pipe clamp in the Youtube search bar.

Yes, but in all the videos the tube breaks, I need the tube to remain whole to get the total lengths to prepare all the parts in the workshop.

You should maybe be using fabrication parts rather than Revit native pipes.

You can use the design to fabrication tool to do that but be aware that you will then lose all system data so if you need to retain the system/design data make a copy of your model first.

Update:

After using the pipe clips which I had uploaded I realise now that there are limitations to them.

  1. They are difficult to place and orientate. The most reliable method that I found was placing in a 3D medium detail view and making sure that the clip hosts to and aligns to the pipe axis.
  2. Copy/mirror yields unexpected results due to (1) - they seem to lose their hosting/plane when copied or mirrored and have to be deleted and manually re-placed.
  3. Clip diameter (Instance) has to be manually typed.
  4. They are not a MEP category (and can't be changed to one) so they are underlay items in MEP views.
  5. From (4) they are also affected by the cut plane settings in the view range and will disappear if the cut plane is below them.
  6. They don't inherit any system characteristics.

On reflection therefore, although it doesn't mimic the real world, I've concluded that it is probably better to use a clip which cuts the pipe and adopts the pipe diameter setting and system characteristics.

as my title said, that's exactly what I didn't want, I saw there was no alternative at the moment.
thank you for your solutions

One for the ideas forum I think although it seems that this has been on the wanted list for a long time. A pipe clamp which attaches to the pipe axis, reads pipe and system information from a connector, but doesn’t cut the pipe.
