Nested Light switch causes the command system to create a huge viewport.

When I select a switch from a nested family for my lighting fixtures the path it creates is sent to a point far away from the lightind device, resulting in a huge viewport. It only happens in nested families and I can't understand why. I am attaching an image displaying the problem. The size of the viewport is giving me problems to export the sheet. Any help appreciated.

Hello,

The nested components are considered at coordinate o,o,o of your file; that's why you have this feature.

Interesting, I've never seen that happen on any of my files.

  • Does it happen on other files as well, or just this one?
  • Would you be able to post a small model using those lights and switch so we can see it happen.

Every file. I found out that the point the circuits point to is the project internal origin, and it happens any time the command system belongs to a nested family. I don't think there is a solution to this problem besides not using nested families but that is not viable, I need to be able to have multiple switches on a single device. I hope Autodesk adresses this issue on a future version.

Do you know of a way to solve this issue? I have some devices with 3 switches, this is a commonplace device and it makes no sense to have it work like that. And it only happens to lighting devices, nested lighting fixtures work just fine and the path doesn't connect to the internal origin.

would you be able to upload the Device so I can play with it, since I hadn't seen this happen before :-).

Of course. The family parameters are in portuguese, if you need help translating you can send me a message.

N° de Fases = Number of poles

Interruptor 1_Tensão = Voltage on the first switch

Interruptor 2_Tensão = Voltage on the second switch

Each half of the circle symbol is a different switch, use tab to select it.
