Hi there,

I would like to learn how to create fabrication parts for use in Revit as a mechanical contractor. Where would be the best available resources. Can anyone suggest where or who would be the best to contact for learn the ins and outs of creating and managing ITM's for Revit?

You're going to need to learn Fabrication MEP. ITMs are not native Revit elements.

Thanks RSomppi. I am aware of what they are and where they come from, but I don't see a lot of available resources online, even though it sounds like 75% of the Mechanical contractors are using them.

I did a search for:

Fabrication CADMEP database management

which brought up quite a few. I can't speak as to the quality but the names that come up in the results look good, IME. It is kind of a specialized field.

I learnt a lot 20 odd years ago by simply reverse engineering the OOTB content with the help of the odd visit to Andy R. As a mechanical contractor I find the AutoCAD CadMEP interface fine for managing and creating the content as its part of building suit.

I did find a couple resources previously, such as IMAGINiT, and BIM TM, that offer training. And I may just go that route, but It is somewhat expensive. I am looking for some actual training rather than just the odd YouTube clip as well. I was curious if anyone else had any strong suggestions or previous success. I hear Virtual Building Supply has some great content, but I don't believe they offer training.

Right now we are using Trimble Sysque. It offers a lot of content, but can be clunky at times, and also comes at a cost. Whether its RFA's or ITM's, I'm wanting to explore creating our own Content library. I hear a lot of Mechanical contractors imbedding labor rates into their ITM's for estimating and scheduling fab, which apparently cannot be done in an RFA. I would love to find someone to show me how to create these quality ITM's I hear about, such as Virtual Building Supply's content.

Who is Andy R?

Agreed, but worth it to learn the basics. Some offer continued support as you develop your workflows. You may want to have a meeting with them to get a "feel" for their offerings before making a purchase.

You can use Trimble Building Data MEPContent Plug in to download the ITMs. It contains almost all itm files available in the US Market. However, you need to purchase a  Licensed version of it.

However, why @autodesk don't have their own ITM library addressing all manufacturer content for their products?

Because they are not a content company and its a massive undertaking.

Look at the OOTB content then build your own.
