Making an underlay object NOT an underlay object.

Once something is set as an underlay, is there a way to make it "not" an underlay?

I have found a number of articles about underlays but can't seem to find anything specific to what I am wanting to know.

So, I have a project where a generic family is snapped to an object that was part of the underlay. That generic object is now an underlay. Is there a way to make that object NOT an underlay so it stands out more with the rest of the project and I don't need the Select Underlay toggle turned on?

Thanks!

If you are talking about Underlay of a View then it means to present objects out of the View Range for reference.  So, if you change the View range to cover these objects then they are no longer Underlay.

Thank you for your quick response. I've tried working with the elevations with no luck before as I understood that to be the issue.

Attached is a Revit project that is empty save for the generic model family. I've tried setting the elevation of the object between the cut plane elevation and the top plane but it still is set as an underlay.

I elevated the family (it is just a square boundary) to 2' above the cut plane and I still couldn't select it when I had Select Underlay toggled off.

I think the lack of response might be an indication that it isn't possible.

This is just an issue of being able to select the entity, correct?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hello, RobDraw, and thank you for responding.

It isn't an issue of selecting as I can just turn on Select Underlay Objects and get it.

Mainly, I want this to be not half-toned with the underlay when I have the underlay half-toned. I want it to be much more bold.

No matter what elevation I set this at, it remains an underlay.

How about hosting it to a reference plane or make it level based?

If I'm not mistaken, generic models are always half toned in MEP discipline views. You might want to address that first.

For whatever reason, that seemed to escape me. I will look into that. Thanks!

It could be because it is the wrong family type, for example, it is under specialty equipment not plumbing fixtures. Edit the family and change the "Family Category and Parameters" type to your choice, for example from specialty equipment to plumbing fixtures. Load into project and overwrite.
