IELEC PROJECT.PNG was wondering anyone can help with my Electrical  Revit model ! firstly I'm trying to create data and communication tags and change color as in picture red for power, green for internet and blue as shown in picture but when I create duplicate   electrical circuit tag and change parameters to data tag and change the color different to red it will not let me have 2 different colors, also I'm using circuit number for Elec tag with is fine but I dnt know what tag parameter to use for data and communication tags as circuit number is greyed out in electrical loads in properties palette

Thanks,

Tags are connected to an object of a certain Revit category. So if you have a data device you create a data device tag. for a communication device you will need to create a communication device tag.

A tag reads a parameter from the object you attach it to. This parameter can be a certain Revit built in parameter or a shared parameter you created and attached to the family/category.

Built in parameters for Data Devices can be found in the "Data Device Tag.rfa".

So power, communication and data all need their own tag family.

In some case you cases you can use multi category tags but those do not always have all the needed parameters available for tagging

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

hi thanks,

great info, Would it be possible send a screen shot of what a Revit lighting and power drawings  all tagged, dims  with data and communication tags as unsure what info yo put on wire tags, cable tray tags, lighting , switch tags etc data tags, communication tags  and parameters to add to each component like what looks professional ? also  trying to figure out what info to put on sockets lights wires , also now I have separate tags for data communication circuit number I want to change for tagging as communication but its  greyed out saying unnamed and data is just numbering so need to figure out how change circuit number.

Thanks,

LMaas is right, you need different tags if you are tagging the wall devices.  This is what most people do.  However, it appears you were trying to tag the wires connected to the devices.

You can change the color of wires using Revit "Filters" (under view properties).  However, if you are connecting a wire to a teldata device, I believe you must create a new custom wire Type for Cat 6 (instead of AWG, THHN, etc.).  If you are tagging the wires, I don't believe you want to give a "circuit number" to a signal cable because you are not connecting it to a power panel.  So maybe label that one with text?  Or add a cable run number parameter (or two) to the data device family and tag the wall device.

I've been through a similar situation in Revit. For data and communication tags, try creating a new shared parameter for "Color" and apply it to the tag family. Then, you can customize each tag's color without limitations. It might be a workaround, but it should do the trick! You can also take hrdf training to learn more useful things. Good luck with your project!
