I can't figure out how to place a family

Hi all. I'm struggling to figure out how to place a family in a project. I'm an engineering intern for a supplier of rain cladding, and I'm tasked with creating 3D models for use in BIM by our clients. I am an engineering design student, so CAD software is home to me, but I have no experience in Revit.

I tried making the models directly in Revit, but I experienced difficulty in the scope of the part, with the largest dimension being 3 inches. I'm making the models I need in AutoCAD 3D and importing them into a Revit families. I haven't had any issues so far in making the families. My issues are in placing the models in an actual project. I'm just trying to check if they are importing correctly and are usable by our clients. I've also tried googling the issue, but I can't quite figure out how to word my searches to give me what I'm looking for.

Here's my process and where I'm getting stuck. I open the sample project. I then load the family into the project. The cursor does some loading for a split second, then nothing. The family is located in the project browser, but I can't seem to locate or place it anywhere in the project.

I have attached a file for review. Any sort of help or direction is very appreciated.

Edit: It won't let me attach a file for some reason.

Hello,

It would be good to read a book about family creation, in Amazon.com search for Revit families and you will get some good books.

Hello,

You can create the family using extrusion and voids for the holes, but unless it is absolutely recquired, don´t detail families so much, they will be heavy and they are too small, depending on the scale of your project they will look as a dot or black area.
