How to automatically tag on placement ?

I would like to know how to do the following in Revit 2016 :

  • Make it so that when an element is placed a tag is added.
  • Make it so that when an element is placed no tag is added.

The method described in the help under ‘Tag on Placement’ sometimes works.

However, here are several behaviours I have encountered :

  • The ‘Tag on Placement’ button is sometimes greyed out.
  • Tag pane (and its button) is missing. Mode pane is sometimes also missing.
  • Behaviour is view, project, computer and element dependent.

Beneath is a picture of me placing an air terminal from Stabicad. It won’t have a tag.

According to https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-mep-forum/tag-on-placement-missing behaviour 2 is a 4 year old bug.

Thanks for the help.

Hi @Angayo,

Regarding Question 1:

Generally speaking, when "Tag on Placement" is highlighted, it will place a tag and vice versa. Seeing as your Tag on Placement is grayed out, you can try and place a default Revit Air Terminal/Diffuser and make sure that "Tag on Placement" is highlighted. Revit remembers whether "Tag on Placement" is "ON" or not. Then you can try to place your Stabicad diffuser. (Although this doesn't work when jumping from the Floor plan to Ceiling plan views, due to the bug I suspect).

I see that it is a "test file" from the image which you provided, your more than welcome to share it and I'll then have a look for you.

Regarding Question 2:

HERE is the correct link to the old post which you referred to. (Just for other users reference).

The bad news is, the bug is still not fixed in Revit 2017.1... I tested it on Revit 2015 / 2016 / 2017.1.

What you could do if you haven't been doing it already is to Annotate Tab >> Tag >> Tag All.

Then you can simply select Air Terminals and Tag all of the selected categories in your view at once. You can also select whether you would like to add a leader or not etc...

I hope this helps! Smiley Wink

For some reason, the Tag on Placement option doesn't exist in ceiling plans.

When you stick to the same view, Revit indeed seems to remember what the position of the ‘Tag on Placement’ button is, so that it can be set with a component where the button is active. On ceiling plans it seems to be set to ‘No’ by default and cannot be changed due to a bug.

Thanks
