How do you set the level for components when you insert them?

I am working on a high rise and when I am inserting a component, a fitting, it is defaulting to the lowest level. I did find the solution for insertion to set the offset, but not the level. If I insert on level 26, it shows up but is referencing everything to level 1. This is a problem for me because I am also fabbing in Revit and it throws off all my spools. I can change the level for the pipes and they don't move, but when I change the level for the fitting once it's already drawn, it shifts EVERYTHING.

Can you set the level when inserting components or no? You can change the level on the drop down before you place the component, but it defaults back.

Check the associated level of the view. Is it set accordingly?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hello,

Are you doing this in an elevation or section?

If yes, be aware that Revit will insert system families considering the last used level, if you adjust it before drawing them, the reference level wil be the desired one.

It's better go to the floor or ceiling plan of the intended Level to place elements.  If you place them in 3d, you need the extra step of set the work plane before placing the elements.  And you can't even do that if you place them in a section/elevation view.

Hmm...I have been doing it in section view and doing it in plan view seems to have eliminated the issue. If I do it in section view, it still refers to my lowest level. I'm guessing it's proper Revit practice to do it in plan view only?

Good to know. The building had typical units for a series of floors so the model that was turned over from the engineer had these all wrong. I'm finding the issues as I dig through it. They must've copied it up wrong somehow. I know when you copy in section view, it somewhat adjusts accordingly though so I don't know how it's all messed up.

When you try to create model component into a detail view call-out will keep placing them to the lowest level in the project. That is maybe your problem and solution is to not use detail view for modeling.
