Greyed out fabrication components in Revit

Hello everyone,

I've got a problem with inserting a FABmep component into revit. This element was created in Fabrication by converting a normal Autocad DWG 3D models into fabrication component using command CONVERT3DMODEL.

I fear it is because of this conversion. Is there any workaround for this to make those components work in Revit? Any special setting when converting/importing/exporting?

Is it 2016 Revit/fabrication issue, that might have been sorted out already in 2018? But honestly, I would like to avoid upgrading library right now, as many of our Clients use 2016.

Not sure what you mean by work in Revit.

Are you unable to load them at all? Unable to place them or connect them?

I know if you convert a 3D model in CAD to an ITM you do have to correctly button map it before it will work normally in Revit. If you just converted it and left it as is that could be your problem.

When I go to "MEP Fabrication parts" menu I am able to select fittings normally - they are all in colour (see below). But when I try to select components mentioned in 1 post they are all grey and I'm unable to select any.

Did you establish the attacher points and button map the custom parts when you created them in CAD? Them being greyed out in revit means that the .ITM file is not supported. Revit doesn't know what to do with them, which makes me think there is a problem with the .ITM file and not revit. Especially if other .ITM files from the same database are working correctly.

Currently Revit doesn't support all patterns in the fabrication content.  This is typically items like structural elements and mechanical equipment - content that already exists in Revit in another form.  You may have created the content correctly and are now seeing it greyed out due to it not being supported.

I have converted 3D model to fabrication cad and it's working in AutoCAD fabrication. But when it comes to Revit fabrication, it's in halftone and unable to use it. Is there any option to fix this issue?

I am having the same issue. The source .ITM is in the same folder as other .ITMs that I am able to use. I created the .ITM by importing an .rfa file and converting it via convert3dmodel.

You should really be creating proper ITM content rather than Wrapping, it will save you a lot of pain in the long run. CID#1110 would probably do that looking at the Icon.

I agree with you. In most cases I do create proper ITMs but every now and then I have one-off parts for specialty items that I'd like to get geometry as accurately as possible. When using the convert3dmodel command, it defaulted the ITM to a "based on" CID#928. I am assuming that the default CID pattern may be the issue and is the reason for the error in Revit but not sure. Do you know how to change the default CID# when using the convert3dmodel command?

Try Right Click in folder view>New>3DModel...........

I think this creates a CID compatible in Revit but there are still issues.
