Hello,

 

I'm having an issue with the graphics represented under a duct. Specifically what I have is a duct with a tap and flex coming off of the bottom, and then a bigger duct running over the top of that duct. When the top duct is over the other one, it shows way too much, including, most notably, the rectangular tap coming off of the bottom of that other duct. When I move it, it instantly looks correct. It is consistent throughout the project, with only those ducts under other ducts showing the taps. I have attached screenshots of before and after, and the only thing that happened was me moving the top duct to the side. 

 

My questions is, is this a Revit bug? Or is this a setting that I can change and fix?

No, that isn't what I'm looking for. The tap actually shows underneath the duct, and I think it has to do with the fact that the tap technically is in the duct a slight amount so it fools the graphics into thinking it is something that should be shown (despite not being blocked by the top of the duct. 

 

In fact, ALL of the rectangular taps show under the duct when printed, not in the window while drafting. That is a huge deal as I can't accurately see what I'm going to be printing while drafting and trying to fix problems I can't see. 

 

There is an exception here though. While looking down at the duct with the tap underneath it, and flex duct and a diffuser under that, if there is a reducer on the diffuser, that shows through everything else, if there isn't, then the rectangular portion of the tap shows. This is a big deal, because it makes our plans look bad.

There might be something wrong with the takeoff/tap family. It was possibly changed/loaded into your project by someone else? I attached the default metric and imperial rectangular takeoff/tap for you to reload/overwrite. 

 

The reason for me stating that is that I tried to mimic your problem and I came up with standard graphical representations which you would expect.

Standard way in which it would connect, so I don't think it has anything to do with the slight cut into the duct runs.

Here is some of the graphical representations below, tested with both a reducer included from the diff and without.

Everything is pretty much what you'd expect. Did you possibly change any of your Graphic Overrides of your Ducts, mainly the transparency?

The image below shows everything to be 100% transparent, but you should clear those overrides. (If present for testing purposes).

So, if the attached Families do not resolve your issue, you can attach a partial part of your project which can then be investigated, or your family. The partial project would be better.

do you get a similar result when looking at your Duct run in a ceiling plan view (looking up) as opposed to a floor plan view (looking Down)?

Just so I don't continue to get harassed by PM's from the people in this thread;

 

No, none of these answers helped. If your answer would have helped, I'd have marked as solution after the 4th or 5th time you "followed up" about it. 

 

As I have now figured out, this is a graphical error in Revit. 

 

First, the fact that the tap appears differently ON SCREEN under one duct instead of under two is probably related to the fact that now the middle duct has been converted to hidden lines.

 

BUT, this doesn't explain why the duct taps under the duct show up when printing when you cannot see them in the window in Revit. This is a classic case of "what you see is NOT what you get", despite assurances to the contrary. 

 

Besides this, showing the exact geometry of the tap under the duct is an error. This should not be shown like this on construction plans, at least not in the manner it is being shown.

I go through the old post which I commented on which haven't been resolved to see if I or other users can be of assistance to help you/other members. 

 

This community and members are here to help. Think of it as a "service" which is being delivered on a global scale. I follow-up a week or two after no further activity was present from the OP. Once again, trying to assist or deliver a service to other members. I do so once. I do apologize for the second one (not the 4th or 5th one) which you received today. It was a mistake on my side. I generally keep track of it quite well.
