Family don't appear unless i put the same value of elevation into cut plane

Hi to you all ,

I'm having a problem with the family I'm using, it's a family hosted by face, but when I try to change the elevation, the family disappears from my working plane, only appearing when I place the same elevation in the cutting plane.

how can i fix this.

thank you all ,

It depends on the family category and the view discipline.

In mechanical, electrical and plumbing views MEP objects are not affected by the cut plane but architectural and structural elements are.

In architectural, coordination, structural views everything [edit: except some MEP elements] is affected by cut plane.

Usually I would set the cut plane about 1200mm so that it cuts doors, windows etc and shows the room layout reasonably well.

exactly what you said and I place my cutting plan there, the problem is that with this exact family I have to place it higher than the cutting plan so that it disappears .I don't know what the problem is.but I've even tried to modify the family so that it's not of the hosted type and the problem still occurs.

Maybe I'm missing what you are trying to do.

You have an image with the cut plane at 2' and the family at 2' and it is visible.

Then you have an image with the cut plane at 1' and the family is not visible.

If the family is an MEP category and your view discipline is also an MEP discipline then it should show as long as it is within the overall view range, regardless of cut plane setting.

If however your family is say Generic Model category then it will be affected by the cut plane.

Please therefore provide more information regarding:-

  1. the family category and
  2. the view discipline

You could also upload the family so that it can be assessed in a test model?

the family is under the category of sanitary equipement

I'm not getting the results that you are.

with the valve at 2' and cut plane at 4' I see the valve okay:

With the cut plane at 1' the valve does disappear but that is because you've used the plumbing fixture category.

A plumbing fixture would usually be something like a water closet, sink, bath etc. They behave differently in views because they are semi-architectural objects rather than pure MEP.

A valve should usually be a pipe accessory and have a part type of Valve - Breaks Into.

The category affects how the family will behave in a pipe system and also affects graphic display.

This is it at 2', cut plane at 1', view discipline of plumbing, family category of pipe accessory:

i don't want the cut at 1' it's just for explanation but this equipement i need it at an elevation more than i cut ,the cut plane i usualy work with is 4' but i need this family to be at 6' 6" maybe more .but i will test it with changing the family group under another category and i ll return with the update if it works or not .
