Family Creation - Annotation scaling

Hi, 

Can anybody explain annotation scaling to me please as I have read quite a few differing points. 

My aim is to replicate 2D symbols we have from another software into Revit annotations.  I measure the symbol in one software then draw them in Revit using the same measurements etc.   When I do and load them in to a project they come in huge! I realise this is to do with scale as they look they correct size when I change the view scale to 1:1 .    

I want all of my symbols to be correct at 1:50 scale.      Am I correct in saying I will have to divide the symbol size by 50?     for example a line drawn at 350mm would need to be drawn at 7mm to be the correct size at 1:50? .      This does cause a problem though as the labels text size is 2.5mm so for this to be divided by 50 leave as number too small to be recognised by Revit.... I feel I am doing something wrong.

The assigned text size and annotation symbol size is what prints despite the scale of the viewport.

Using a detail item instead of an annotation would keep things the same size. we use this for light fixture symbols so the diameter/length will be maintained.  the draw back is you cannot use text.

When you create the generic annotation, the size you used to create the family, is the size you will measure in the sheet.

You should really start with your annotation symbols looking good/correct at 1/8" scale and adjust their size up or down based on that. Also, any annotation with text/labels should be your font size or slightly smaller. So if you use 3/32" font, those labels should be 3/32" or 5/64".
