Elevation Constraints in Revit Family

Hey! I came across an issue when working with elevation constraints in Revit Electrical families. I created a few types under an Electrical/Receptacle Family with different elevation constraints for each one (see screenshots 1, 2 and 3). Issue is that when I open that family to check the parameters, everything is perfect just as I set up. But in the plan view/section/elevation etc. all of them area picking up the same [default} elevation (see screenshots 4 & 5). Any insight on this???

Even though you set that elevation in the family, based on Type (GCFI)... the screenshot you did at the bottom shows an "instance" situation.

 

If you go to place the receptacle, and before actually placing it, if you type 4'-0" in there, it'll remember that for all GFCI's you place after that.

Something happened prior that's making it remember 1'-6" for some reason.

Did you place them in project before or after you set the Default Elevation value for each Type in the family?

I placed them in first, then realized I could just work with the family elevation constraints to make things easier... is that the issue? And if so, what do I do about it now - after the fact? I'm pretty new to Revit so yknow...

Just select one of a type, right click and select all in project, change Elevation form Level value.

You can either manually grab each one, using CNTRL and selecting...

Or you can grab one, right-click, Select All Instances In View (Or project if you feel comfortable with that)...

Verify that you have, in fact, grabbed nothing BUT GFCIs, and if so, change the value to 4'-0" and they'll all move to be 4' from the level.

If you place a new one, after, make sure to set that prior to finishing placement in your model.

When you edit the family and load back into the project, use the option "Overwite the existing version and its parameter values." I believe that will update each type so when placed, it will inherit that default elevation properly.

It won't do that. I learned that lesson the hard way.

It's an instance parameter, so that toggle completely ignores those. 

 

You want to make the receptacle, wider, deeper, taller?.... sure, this will work all day, every day.

But elevation. No bueno.
