Editing color scheme in template

Hello,

Does anyone know if you can edit a duct or pipe color scheme in your template without drawing the duct or pipe?

For example: editing the colors of the System types that are already in your template.

I can only edit them after i draw the system type. If i remove the duct or pipe, revit does not remember my changes.

Does anyone know if this is possible in Revit?

Hello @Anonymous,

Yes, you can create predefined color schemes in your template file. 

1. Go to the Duct Color Scheme Editor and select an existing color scheme.
2. Click the Duplicate icon and enter your Color Scheme name.
3. Change the Title value and select the filter parameter that you want to use in this Color Scheme. In my example Video I set it to 'Size'.
4. Click OK when you get a message. The message is shown because you change the filter parameter of the copied Color Scheme.
5. Click the green + to add a new row and enter the filter value for this row. For Example 125.
6. Add more rows and change the visibility, Color and Fill Pattern if you like.
7. Click Apply and close the dialog boxes.

You can add the Color Scheme to your View template if you want.

Save your template file.

Note:

With some parameters, you can use the range values.

See the pre defined Color Scheme 'Duct Color Fill - Velocity' in the Autodesk Revit Mechanical template.

Only i can not predifine like this in my template.

I can only define them when i have drawn the system or used the sizes etc.

This goes for pipe systems, sizes etc.

That is the problem.

Do you know what can cause this problem?

Hello,

Just place a Duct Legend or Pipe Legend in a empty view, them you can edit them, just keep in mind not to delete them, in this case you will loose them!

Unfortunatly is does not solve my problem. The settings are only remembered when i have drawn the system or used the sizes etc.

When i place a color fill legend and define the systems, the moment i leave edit scheme it does not remember my settings. 

It must be a setting i do not know about in my template.

As an alternative to rklempau suggestion, you can also use duct/pipe system type instead of duct size.

Another option is to use view filter (see attached)

You can add the color filter in your view template before laying the duct and creating system.

but make sure when you are creating the system there should be some parameter connecting them with filter settings.

either it can be system name or any other parameter. find image attached for your reference.

Also if you don't want to create systems you can create duct type for various system just by duplicating the duct and fittings.

Note: if you use filter by system all the elements will be overridden with filter which are in the system.

whereas if you use filter by family type only those duplicated families will be overridden.

you can save these templates and reuse it in future projects as well.
