Hi,
I have been ask to look at a project that was started without me but has a few problems!!! The designer has created the HVAC system. We have inherited the model and I have been assigning Shared parameters to be able to call off centreline lengths, and dimensions for our Q.S dept.
##The Centreline length or the parameters aren't the problem!##
I have got that down, with both the help of lookup tables and a little bit of fudging!
I just wanted to know of the correct protocol when it comes to saving the project file; I have had to go into the Family editor and into the parameters to edit the shared parameters. Now with the family changed (updated) it wants to save.
The designer has issued the model, with worksets but hasn't explicitly said that we have to synchronise with the central model. So my updates are internal at the moment, I know we are going to receive further models on this project as there is 12 floors of Duct work that is to be issued! I want to build upon the shared parameters concept for us to utilise in the Q.S dept.
How best should I proceed? >>> a) Save on my end and then upload my new families as project standards when the next phases of the model are issued?
b) Ask the designer to allow me to edit the families on a project-wide scale and have them be utilised across the board?
I know the second option is the best outcome, but so far they haven't been the mosst helpful as the company I work for have no experience in Revit, and I have a completely different background to HVAC and they just ask me to troubleshoot Revit quieries. (Hence the need to ask about Q.S, Design, Estimating)!
BIG Thanks in advance!
Tom

So you were given a detached model from the designer. A detached model cannot be re-sync'd
I would see this as your own model to do with as you need. You may need to send it back but it would be its own model.
Does that make sense - or did I miss the point all together.
