Edit view range in a linked model

I'm having trouble adjusting the view range.  For one, the clip plane parameter is frozen/greyed out.  Not sure why.  And on top of that the apply button doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Check if your view has a View Template applied. When properties are grayed out, it usually means that they are being controlled by a View Template.

Likely that is the case. Is there a way to change the view template? I'll have to look for a good tutorial somewhere. Thanks

With your view current, scroll down to the Identity Data section in Properties, If a View Template is applied, the name of the Template will show up in the box across from View Template (if none is applied, the box will say None). Click on the Name of the template & the Assign View Template dialog box will appear. Click None from the list in the left panel & OK at the bottom to exit the dialog box. Your View will retain the settings in the template, but will no longer be dependent on it, so you will be able to change settings through the Properties Palette.

I was about to submit an idea regarding this, but perhaps i am missing something. From my most recent trouble shooting attempt to create a slab opening coordination plan, my only solution was to create dumb views. Thereby creating views with view ranges at a 0 elevation cut for each level.

No matter what I tried the view range was not controllable through the host model. I could only get the results i needed by linking in a view with the view range set to show only elements crossing at the level datum 0. Quite odd and misleading when the link is "By Host" yet this was clearly not the case.

Anyone else with similar problems?

"to create a slab opening coordination plan....view ranges at a 0 elevation cut for each level"

If you are trying to show a view that cuts the slab openings then that is what you would need to do, set the cut plane to be within the thickness of the slab, set the bottom plane at the same height or lower, set the top plane at the same height or higher - the cut plane cuts architectural and structural elements.
