Can I take an exisiting family - in this case a conduit spacer - and duplicate and modify it? I have a family that is two rows of four 2" holes and I need one that is two rows of two 2" holes. Thank you!

Hello,

This is the usual way to create a similar family.

Absolutely. You'll want to open up the family to figure out how it's been built, since you need to ask yourself two questions:

1. Do I need a family that can put out multiple options [flexibly change quantity, flexibly change hole size, etc...]?

2. Is anything already built into the family?

If this is a one-off need, you can get away with duplicating the family, or doing a save-as (if there's nothing parametricize). Usually workflows come back at some point though, so robustness is good.

Hello!

Similarly, to the other replies I think this would be easiest if you make another family, based off the new one. Here's a possible way of doing that:

  1. Open the family that you want to base the new family off of. (In this case the two rows of four 2" holes family)
  2. Click on File>Save As>Family
  3. Enter a new name for the new family. (Probably something like, "2x2_2in_holes" but pick what makes sense to you)
  4. Make the adjustments so that the family looks like what you want. (Delete the extra holes, maybe move the current alignment of the remaining ones, etc.)
  5. Save the family again with the new changes
  6. Select Load into Project

Et voila! That should make the family you need.
