Hello @RiaanFourie01
If I understand you correctly, you added materials to your Duct Systems as I did in the example below.
Now you want to see this in AutoCAD like this:
Above you see the Model Space where I added the exported Revit materials to the Solids (Ducts) and Blocks (Duct Fittings). The Visual Style is set to Realistic.
Well, Revit will export the Materials you added to the Duct systems to AutoCAD but the material are not connected to the AutoCAD Duct Solids and Duct Fitting Blocks.
You have to connect them manually or add them to it by using a lisp routine that adds the materials automatically.
In the picture below you will see the materials in AutoCAD that where exported from Revit.
As you can see Revit will not use the same name as you defined in Revit but will give it the name ‘RevitMaterialDefinition’ followed by the Reference ID of that material in Revit.
When creating a material in Revit it gets a Reference ID. This is the unique ID for that material in your project or Revit Template file. (I would advise you to add the materials to your Revit MEP template file.)
Unfortunately, you cannot see that Ref ID whiteout the Revit Lookup Tool.
You can download and install the Revit Lookup tool at the following link: Revit Lookup
(the interactive Revit BIM database exploration tool)
After you have installed the Revit Lookup tool you can go to the Add-Ins tab and select ‘Snoop DB’
goto materials and you will see the Ref ID for every material in your project.
Knowing this you could rename the materials in AutoCAD, then select all elements on the specific layer and change the material property to the right material.
If you know how to write a lisp function in AutoCAD, you could automate this process.
Note: you can use the Layer modifier when exporting the Duct systems to the right layer in AutoCAD. This way it is easier to select all solids and blocks on the specific layer per Duct system
Note: unfortunately, Revit is not using an AutoCAD (DWT) Template file when exporting Revit to AutoCAD else we could add the materials already to the AutoCAD DWT file.
I hope this will help you to get a bit more understanding about how Revit exports the materials to AutoCAD
