Differences between Revit and Revit MEP Templates

Hi all, I want to know how does Revit templates works.

I was working on a sample project and when trying to model pipeing, electrical or other type of installations it pop up error  messages. But when I star the proyect on a Mechanical or Electrical Template it does not generate any error messages.

Any guess?

Or how can I avoid does messager or modeling errors when working on architectual Template.

It's very simple really. The difference is the content and the settings associated with said content. MEP can be modeled with an architectural template but one would need to load the content and edit the settings.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Do you know how to "transfer"  does setting to the Architectual one?

  • You need to open both models (Mech and Arch) in the same session of Revit.
  • have the Architectural model active
  • then Manage ribbon > Settings panel > Transfer Project Standards
  • from the Copy From drop down, pick the Mechanical model
  • pick the categories you want to copy from the Mech model to the Arch model
    • pipe type, duct type, systems, etc...
    • i do not recommend selecting the Check All option, but that's me :-)...

once all that is done.... you will also need to enable the Systems menus

  • File > Options > User Interface
  • check the 3 Systems options

That is pretty much close to what i need, but just one more thing.

How can I "import" the families loaded in the electrical template to the Architectual?

or "export" the familes from the electrical template to the architectual....

when you do a Transfer Project Standards, it will include all the families for the associated categories picked to transfer. for other families, you will need to load them manually.

If you don't have access to the original families, you can open the MEP model(s), right click on a Family catagory and pick Save. this will save all the families from the model to a folder. you can then filter and sort them as needed. Then you can load them into your Arch model. Someone else my know of a 3rd party app that can do it, but  i don't know any off the top of my head.
