Design Options

On one of our projects, The Architect has multiple "Design Options".  I can't seem to find a way to switch these, it is linked into my MEP file.  I want to create multiple designs for the different options, but I can't turn thier options on and off.  Anyone done these before?

So I tried to set the alternate options to be visible on the architectural model and save it separately, it still does not display the alternates when I bring it in to my file.  AUTODESK, HOW IS THIS DONE?  IT IS USELESS IF I CAN'T USE IT!

I'm just going from memory here, but go into your view visibility and select the revit links tab. Choose the "customize" over the "host view" to activate the choices and select the "design options" tab. You should see any design options that are in the view. The default view is "automatic", so click the down arrow at the far right of that cell, then you should see the choices. Depending on how they named them, they could be yes/no or on/off or something more detailed.

Hope this helps,

John

You are the MAN... Axe'm!  That should be in the Help menu, at least.

So I set up Design Options in my central file... I put a run of duct and VAV equipment into one of the options... I cannot connect this with a duct from the Main Model.  How does this work with Calculations?  Do I have to duplicate the entire system and put it into the design option?  That could be most of my HVAC design.

I've never used systems and design options together, but it seems like you would need to have a complete system for each option. I'm sure that's not the answer you were hoping for, but it's the same thing you get when you try to use groups in a system, they won't connect.

Our company primarily does VDC work, which doesn't require calc's and systems, so we decided not to use systems and just control visibility by pipe/duct type.

Yeah, We're not doing that yet. Thank heavens I don't have to copy everything!  It is quite nice how the schedules change when you select design options thru the V/G.
