Custom Duct Straight

Hi there,

I am trying to create a variety of custom duct fittings for a manufacturer which I am having good success with. My biggest problem is that it appears that you cannot have a custom ductwork straight. For example, this ductwork I am creating is at least 20mm thick compared to typical steel ductwork which is a few mm thick. There is also a number of parameter associated with this ductwork that needs to be inputted. Does anyone know of a solution for this? Is it possible to create custom straights? At the moment I am creating them and classifying them as elbows. All thoughts welcome, thanks.

You are able to create custom straights but are very limited in what you can do.  Most of the time when you are getting to the level you are probably looking for you would use something like Autodesk Fabrication.  But to get back to your question.  Duct straights in Revit are system families so they live only in project environments.  If you go to the project's project browser and look at Ducts this is where a type of duct is built.  This will have the default fittings and so on.  If you go the the MEP settings of the project this is where you will be able to change the sizes of duct and if they are able to be chosen when adding duct.  There is no setting for thickness of duct so that is a limitation that Fabrication has.  You are also not able to set the default lengths of duct straights.
