Creating Revit Piping Isometrics

What is the latest on Creating Piping Isometrics in Revit.

 

Are there any advancements in recent Revit updates or are there any new plug-ins that assist with this.

 

Would consider exporting to other software e.g. Plant 3D, but would prefer to keep it in Revit if possible with a plug in app.

We found an add-in called EzIso in the Autodesk app store.  My company is about to install and try using it.  Will keep you posted if it turn's out to be worth while.  First problem that I see is the cost.  2K for the first year per license then 4K per year after.

Original post is old but some considerations:

 

  • Exploded view in Revit can work, but runs into a few issues regarding mid-project riser modifications and annotations.  It presents itself as a really clean solution on a completed riser, but modifications afterwards can sometimes not displace appropriately leading to hanging pipe or text.
  • Personal workflow is to capture major or common stacks within a scope box, stacking 3D views dedicated to each scope box. If the project size permits, I drop these onto a common sheet with a 3D view dedicated to the pipe mains to show the interconnections without being stuck with perspective overlaps. Displacements get shown with detail lines or with End-to-End reference callouts. If the project is too big then it's just End-to-End callouts everywhere.
  • Revit doesn't allow room/space annotation in 3D view. You can get around this with a generic, invisible family placed in the inner centroid and populated with the room data, tagging the generic family (I would recommend Dynamo for this type of workflow). 
  • Lineweights are not friendly to small pipe on big drawing scale. You'll need to think about how you want 3/4" pipe to display versus 4"/6"/8" mains. It's very likely you'll need to dedicate more sheets and have larger scaling to smaller sections of risers, versus a CAD single-line isometric representation.

I create the Pipe Isometrics with Revit Fabrication Items and an own Export Tool to PCF. Her ist the Base .NET Api Command. https://blogs.autodesk.com/revit/2017/07/26/exporting-pcf-files-from-revit/

There are few add-ins that will help in the creation on ISO drawings with MEP elements.  The best that I have found that is free is Auto-Dimension MEP by MLabs.  Still not perfect, but will get you roughly 90% of the way to production drawings.

 

There are a couple others that I found, but this one is the one I settled on because of price compared to output.
