Controlling Label Visibility with View Template

Has anyone figured out a way to turn on/off family Labels using view templates? Want labels to show on some trade views, but not others.

Initial attempt was to use visibility shared parameters on the label and project views. Didn't work.

If there aren't other families in the view that are Generic Annotation that you need to see, then you can just turn off that entire category....although I am guessing there are =/

Alas these are Generic Annotation nested in object families. I need a way to turn off text labels used to differentiate family types, but still show the basic symbol on other views for location and coordination purposes.

If the label (GA) is nested into a different family type, turning off the visibility of the GA won't turn off the host family.

I did a quick video on what I mean 😃 http://screencast.com/t/HSQUNBAsU

Unfortunately can't turn off the whole GA category. Was looking for some way to turn off the text only.

For example the GFCI Label on a duplex electrical outlet, have it only shown on electrical plans, and turn it off on telecom while preserving the duplex outlet symbol on telecom.

- create a shared family (B) of a different category (X), which shall not be used in your project

- nest the generic annotation with label in this family (B), associate the label with a shared parameter (sp)

- nest the family (B) in your main family (A), associate the shared parameter (sp) with a parameter

- load the family (A) in your project

- turn off category (X) in the view templates you do not want to show the label

Here is my workaround:

In the family editor, select the generic annotation (with the label) and open visibility settings. Uncheck coarse and medium.

Now, in views where I don't want to see the generic annotation symbol or label I simply set that model category to coarse or medium in the visibility graphics dialog. Not ideal, obviously, and only works for me because I don't use detail level a lot for other stuff.
