Constraints not satisfied error

When I go to use the EQ function of the linear dimension tool to center a family member between two parts of a linked CAD background, I get this error. Opening the cad background and exploding it does not fix this, nor has anything else I tried. Importing the background sometimes fixes this issue, and sometimes it doesn't; any suggestions?

The error will probably be caused by a constraint in the sprinkler family.

Could you upload the family?

Did you link the CAD in with Current view only box ticked?

The reason is CAD line work is a lower tier than Revit elements on the hierarchy ladder, so Revit will try to move the CAD lines instead of moving the Revit element, which is of course cannot be done.

What you can do is use move tool to move the element and type in "S2" to choose a point between 2 points of if CAD link. That will give the same EQ EQ result.
