Conduit surface connector issues

I wanted a conduit junction box that could have 2 conduits come into one side, and one out the other side.

So I took Revit's standard conduit "tee", and edited it and saved as a new family.   I removed all the individual connectors, and replaced with surface connectors.  However, it doesn't act quite right.

If I try to connect a conduit dead center to a side, it never connects.  If I try to connect one off center, it tries to open the surface connector placement view, but that never opens.  Revit just seems to be stuck in a loop until i hit enter, and then it places the conduit.

I thought maybe this had something to do with the sizing of the box (which it seems to get from the conduit sizes using a convoluted calculation).   So I removed all that nonsense and just made the box 12x12x6.   But it still has the same issues.

Family attached (Revit 2023).

It's very iffy, but eventually seemed to work.

I changed it to a electrical fixtures, and changed the category to a junction box.  Still did not work.  also tried Elect. Equipment, and Panelboard.  Still no.   Deleted connectors and reinserted conduit connectors.   Still no help.

So I put a connector on top, and change the view, and tried to draw a vertical conduit (like I would from a panel).   Suddenly everything started working.   Including a family that hadn't worked, but suddenly does work.

Anyhow, seems to work now, and I can confirm changing the family to Conduit Fittings breaks it again.
