cannot tag a room from linked model

Hi

I'm trying to tag rooms from linked architectural model, but the room tag is not appearing on the view, i can see the room from linked model, just cannot tag it. I've checked all VG settings, all room are visible both in model and linked model, i also checked the phase and workset, they are all setting correct.

I don't know why it happens, is it room tag family issue or linked model issue?

I attached on screenshot to show the situation, as you can see, the host option on top ribbon is unavailable.

Hope someone can solve this problem for me, Thank you so much!

Go back into the Visibility Graphics > click on the Revit Links tab click on the Display Settings button and set the linked model to "Custom"

REVIT VISIBILITY GRAPHICS

Since you know what level the rooms and room tags were created on, you can set the "Linked View" to the proper level.

REVIT SET LINKED VIEW

From the Model Categories tab switch the Model Categories from <By host view> to <Custom>. You can then verify that the Rooms has a check mark. You will do the same thing on the Annotation categories tab for the room tags.

REVIT LINK DISPLAY SETTINGS

Click the Apply and OK button to get back to your model. You will now see the linked models tags. Because your model and the linked in model might have more elements in it, you will want to make your own room tags so you can place them where you want in the room. Once you have tagged all the rooms, go back into the Revit link through Visibility Graphics and turn off the Room tags.

Check the following :

1. Worksets - ensure you current workset is visible to the view where you are placing the room tag

2. Rooms - check if Rooms in VG is turned on, both from the host model VG and linked model

3. Room Tag - check if room tag is turned on from VG Overrides Annotation

4. View Range - check your view range, the cut plane should not be above the extent of the Room so when you are tagging it will detect the room.

5. Room Tag Family - check if the tag family you are using is properly set, check visibility, text heights, etc...

Apparently this doesn't always work as a fix.

We had this problem in a model with multiple links and it wouldn't work even making the Link visibility settings "by linked view". The thing that eventually worked was removing the structural links, and Point Cloud and keeping only the Architectural Internal models linked.
Then it worked fine just placing the rooms as normal!

I guess one of the link was causing some corruption to the file that the Room tag just wouldn't work

I hope this helps someone else

You need to see the rooms in order to tag them.  So one or more of the other links may omit the rooms from the architectural link.

Hi.

I had the same problem, and the solution was the Phase of the view. If i have Phase "Existing", i don't place room tag's, but if i change the phase for "New construction" (is the coorect phase because the linked model was created in this phase) i can place the room tag's.

I hope to help you.

This might be a less technical suggestion. But have you tried the Tag All command? Select room tags and make sure the box "Included elements from linked files" is checked.

Thank you, this actually worked! I still can't tag any rooms from the linked model directly or copy a tag to/from rooms (yes the rooms are visible), but this does tag every room in view.

Hi there,

Unfortunately this doesn't work, as Visibility Graphics is greyed out in the first place.

And I can't change anything there.

Also, my linked model is IFC file.

Any help on this?

😉

as I understand it you are trying to tag rooms that exist in a linked IFC for use in an MEP project.

I am pretty sure Revit does not support this. Even if you had a .rvt source.

What you need to do is create spaces based on the rooms and use the space naming system to copy the names over. I'm not sure if this works from IFC but if you have a linked revit file, and set it to Room Bounding (in the properties of that link) then Revit is able to create spaces automatically. It all works pretty well once you get used to it.

@MuirEng, rooms in a .rvt link can be tagged as many people in this thread have suggested. I'm surprised at the statement that you don't think it can be done.

The solution I found was in matching the phasing from the linked model to the phase I am currently working in. I highlighted the link model the went to the "Edit Types" for the link model. Then went to "Phase Mapping". I am working in Phase "New Construction" and the rooms were created in "Phase 1" in the linked model.room_tags.png

The above solution is correct, we just ran into this problem this week. It is indeed a phasing issue. To elaborate, Rooms can only exist in the phase in which they were created. If a Room is created in the Existing phase, it will not show up if the phase is set to New, even if the Phase filter is set to Show Previous + New like one would expect. Existing rooms must also be created in the New phase in order for them to show up and be taggable.

After trying numerous possible solutions, this one worked for me too. It was the mis-match of phases between the linked model and my working model that prevented me from placing room names.

Man, I must have been searching for this answer for weeks, and this is the answer that solved my problem. Thank you very much. All of the other solutions mean nothing if you don't check the "Include elements from linked files" . Thank you very much!!!!

Well as your quote says “Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should”

I'm not sure why you are responding to me like that. Did I ask a question?

If the linked model was made in "new" but is actually "existing", how do I correct the phases in order to create rooms? Or how do I map the phases correctly?
