Can I Adjust Visibility Settings in Revit Links for Multiple Templates?

I am looking for a solution to help me improve the Project Setup process. Right now it takes anywhere from 8 to 12 hours to set up a model depending on the complexity, how many views, levels, sheets, etc. A large portion of that time is taken up when hiding certain aspects of the Architects' equipment, ADA clearances and such through Revit Links. I would say it probably takes up the most time compared to everything else. I have already come to the conclusion that the best way to approach this would be to create a Base Model Project for New Construction and an Existing Building using our in house template for each. In this process I would link a blank model in so that the Revit Links option is selectable. From there it is just a matter of setting up the model to our standard and loading in each Architects' model as needed. Ensuring that nothing is centralized it should work fine. Aside from moving the levels around already in our template and copy/monitoring any grid lines. Even though this solution should solve some of the time issues when setting these project's up; I know there will be instances that will force me to go back into Revit Links. For instance the Architect may put a piece of equipment on the wrong work set. For these situations I was hoping to find a way to hide specific visibility settings across multiple templates, not just views. Is this even possible? I fear it might not be. If anyone has any experience with this or could provide some insight I am all ears. Thank You, John

Before replying to your question, I just want to mention that using worksets for visibility might not be a good idea but that really depends on your confidence in the author(s) of the linked model and it sounds like you are already aware of that. As a rule, I don't use them for visibility.

The way you stated your question is a bit hard to follow but as far as I know there is no way to globally change settings across multiple templates.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

When I mentioned work sets I was referring to Family Categories.  Sometimes the Architect will place a Water Closet under Generic Models for instance.  If we don't catch that when copy/monitoring it doesn't work with our schedules.  Likewise with hiding visibility settings.  If they place a water closet at the incorrect spot I might not want it shown.  So I would have to go back into the model and hide it in every template.

Apparently I was using HTML when posting so it must not have separated any of my text.  I assumed there might not be an easy to solution to this.  It doesn't happen very often that they put a family on the wrong category.  If it can't be helped we will just continue with the process we are doing now when it comes up.  If Autodesk could come up with a specific solution to this it would be helpful though.

There's no solution for consultants not playing nicely in the sandbox other than knowing that these things need to be addressed on an as needed basis.

Have you thought about using filters to turn off items/categories? If there is an architectural element that you want to hide, tab on the linked model until you have the item selected. Then copy it to clipboard and paste it anywhere in your project (just to get the family loaded). Then delete the item you just placed. From there the family is loaded into your project and you can create a filter turn off the elements. You can then apply that filter to all your other view templates.

It would be nice if Autodesk implement a future that allows the Revit users to be able to select multiple templates at once. This feature would open the opportunity to update same visibility settings for multiple templates. I believe this is a simple solution which can be released with Revit 24!

There's an IDEAS forum for your suggestion. If it's going to happen in R2024, the decision has already been made. Your idea would be for an update or 2025.

If you think it's so easy to implement, it would be beneficial for a lot of people if you could develop something or show Autodesk how easy it is.

There might be a way to do this with Dynamo.
