CADWorx DWG to Revit file Import

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has worked with a DWG file exported from CADworx and has been able to successfully import the model into Revit. I am working with 2019 Autodesk products, I also have 2019 CADWorx object enabler installed so I can see the dwg exported from CADworx properly. Below is what I see in AutoCAD if I open the DWG file created from CADworx everything is properly shown as seen below:

If I import that same file to Revit I get the error of "Revit cannot import some of the geometry.
This result can be caused by various issues with the source file. Adjust the geometry in the file and try the import process again." and the import looks like all jagged, the piping is missing. See below:

If I go back in Autocad and export to NWD, STL, DXF, STP or IFC file and try to import those files into Revit the results are slightly better as the piping transfers over but the import in Revit still has the same error and the geometry is extremely jagged.

See below.

As you can imagine, this does not look good nor render properly with the rest of the Revit model:

I'm at a loss at what other options I can do to be able to import a DWG file from CADworx into Revit properly. Appreciate any help

Did you create the model in Plant3D?

No, the DWG file came from the utility client, they designed the piping using CADworx Plant. Which is sort of an Add-in for AutoCAD.

Do you have an ExporttoAutoCad command in the AutoDesk product you are using?

If for some reason you can't access EXPORTTOCAD, there several other ways to do an export but I agree that it should help.

You need CADWORX Plant to convert the components from custom objects to traditional AutoCAD 3D solids.  If you don't have it, request the provider do that; it's a very simple process, there isn't a lot of work involved.

Sounds like that's the only option then.

I was hoping that with AutoCAD having the ability to properly see the solids created in CADWorx it could export them  to Revit properly. But it looks like the only option to get the model in Revit is have CADworx produce the compatible exported file.
Thanks all for the help.

No problem.  Depending on how much detail you're looking for (e.g. open ends on pipes open to atmosphere, detailed bolts on flanged connections), you might want them to switch components to enhanced view before dumbing them down.  Some things don't change, for example those plug valves are all you get either way.

For those that have access to cadworx, I was able to make the cadworx import work with the following process.

Cadworx to Revit Successful Solution:

  1. Bind all “attached” xrefs in the cadworx file.
  2. Thaw & unfreeze all layers in Cadworx file
  3. Ensure the Cadworx does not have any items farther than 20 miles from the WORLD COORDINATE SYSTEM in cadworx.
    1.  I believe the biggest issue that I was facing was distance from revit origin.  If the import file limits were too large, everything suffers.  That includes what items come in missing and the visual appearance of the import (squiggly lines).
  4. Run CWEXPLODEALL command.
    1. This command converts all items to an ACIS item and removes cadworx smart data.
    2. This brings in most items with complete success and keeps the cadworx file size to a minimum.
  5. Then I run the Overkill, purge, and audit commands.

Additional Note:

  1. I have found that running too many explode commands ends up with a less functional import.  Often a significant portion of the piping model comes in missing
