CAD import text issue - Revit

Hi everyone,

I’m encountering an issue with CAD import/link text in Revit. The font appears different and darker, even after adjusting the properties in Visibility/Graphics.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Are you referring to the hexagonal tags or the smaller text?

Autocad fonts don't look the same when imported into Revit.

RomanS looks rubbish (very thin) regardless of settings.

Double line fonts like RomanD look like single line in bold.

The best solution that I could come up with was to change the Autocad style to Arial and then it seems to import into Revit fairly well.

There is a Revit .txt file called "shxfontmap.txt" where you can map AutoCAD .shx font style to your desired font when linking in a CAD. For instance, you can map RomanS to an Arial font and when you link the CAD file it will have Arial font. Here is the link for the instructions on how to set that up.

The problem is that Revit also distorts TrueType fonts as well.

Here is what worked for me for the non shx problem.

In AutoCAD
Put all text on its own layer (e.g. DWG_TEXT) and give that layer colour something you are not using for geometry—say colour 150.

Set the lineweight of the layer to 0.00 mm (or ByLayer/Default).

In Revit
Insert→ Import → Import Line Weights.
Find colour 150 (or whatever colour you gave the text) and set the line-weight to 1 (or 0 for Revit 2024+) for every print

Or map that layer in imported categories to the pen you have set to 0.001

Doing this will eliminate the visual mismatch.

There have been similar posts in the past.

Autocad fonts such as Simplex, Romans etc don't translate well in Revit.

The best solution that I could come up with is to use Arial in Autocad which then displays the same as the Arial font in Revit.

That is very true, but even when using Arial.TTF (Revit's favorite) it doesn't look the same. Since revit doesn't use the truetype fonts when it links CAD files, but converts the text like they are plines they never look like standard text. My previous post is the solution I found to make text in a linked Cad file at least look almost the same. It's the closest I have been able to get. Hopefully they fix it faster then they fix revit text.
