Bottom of pipe and top of pipe parameter.

I am an MEP BIM coordinator and need to come up with an annotation that labels the bottom or top of pipe.  The actual diameter of the pipe matters so using the invert elevation parameter does not work in this case.  Does Revit offer a parameter to use that gives you the bottom of pipe OD (outside diameter) and allow it to be relative to the level the pipe is on?  If it doesn't i am a bit puzzled why not as this is something the MEP coordination industry needs to get proper drawings out to the field.  Please do not give me solutions with Dynamo as i don't know this product and don't have time to mess with it.  This is something that Autodesk / Revit should give with their base package - no excuse to not have this.  If this was in another topic post forgive me but i have searched and couldn't find anything that answers this.  Also i know the spot elevation tag does this but i want to create a full annotation tag that has pipe size and type on it as well instead of having to tag or annotate the same pipe twice.

It's worth to take a look and try out Dynamo ....

 

This issue is already on our Revit idea Station - please vote if solution based on Dynamo is for you insufficient

I appreciate your response however as i stated in my first item i don't have time to mess with Dynamo or have the money to spend on training, especially for something that should be standard.  Autodesk needs to know this instead of pushing for a secondary program to solve things.  Revit has many different parameters for piping just not the ones that count for my end of things.  If they can come up with bottom of OD pipe with the spot elevation why can't they give a parameter for it.

I have a solution for you using a Dynamo script.

 

In the attachment, I placed a Dynamo script that you can use to calculate the bottom and top offset of the Pipe and place the Value into a shared parameter that is added to all Pipe

First, create the Shared parameter "Bottom Offset" and "Top Offset" and Add those parameters as a Project Parameter to the Catagory Pipes.

Then run the Dynamo script.

I am having issues with your Dynamo file.  As i have stated before i do not know how to use Dynamo nor do i have time to learn it.  i tried to open it because you had already completed a script but there are unresolved issues with some of the file -  i have attached a screen shot.  i will also need to know how to implement this into revit to create the proper tag with this parameter.  Thanks

revit 2017

and just downloaded the latest dynamo for 2017 Revit from the site.  It says 0.9.1 but should have upgraded to the latest.

you need Dynamo for Revit.

not Dynamo Studio.

 

You need to start Dynamo within Revit.

Please download also the Revit 2017.2 version.

Please be patient with me as i told you i have no experience with Dynamo and really still don't know what exactly it does.  I am not a software guy just a drafter BIM guy.  Anyway - how do i load the script back into Revit so i can use the parameter you created in Dynamo?  I appreciate your time and patience.

Anybody interested in finishing this off for me? I  just need to know how to implement a pre-made script from dynamo and implement it into revit.  I have tried to go into dynamo from the revit toolbar and open the script but then i am lost on how it links back into revit.   Bottom of pipe tag / parameter.

why dont use a formula to create apropriate tag with BOP, or TOP of Pipe

 

 

you can do with dynamo, but why? do you need something special?

Do not know how to use Dynamo and wrote this in my initial statement.  Asked for a solution with Revit itself and got nothing.  Was given a dynamo script and with some help from my Revit Resaler (Advanced Solutions) i was able to get the script to work and my issue is solved.  Thanks for taking the time to aid in my dilema.  In the future i may try to learn Dynamo but at this moment i do not have the time to do so nor the money for training.  

 

I will end my responses to this forum with this statement.  - Even though the Dynamo script was the solution to my issue, Autodesk needs to add this parameter into its base package.  This is an industry standard dimension in the MEP world - bottom of pipe / duct is the main dimension used to install these systems.  MEP BIM modeler's should not have to run a separate script for this basic and widely used dimension. 

 

Thanks for all the help and expertise from everyone on this topic and hope i don't seem ungrateful but i am frustrated with Revit on this.

What the absolute what? Why on earth is anyone messing around in Dynamo for this?

 

There is a standard Revit command to do this! I do BOP measurements all the time! Check the Annotation Tab for 'Spot Elevation'!

 

Am I missing something?

Hello,

 

Standard BOP (Invert Elevation) consider the nominal diameter for calculation, if you want to use the outside diameter for this obtain the value.

Check the sample family.

That only works on Pipe that is parallel to the Floor. Spot Elevations work on Sloping Pipework, too.

Thank you guys for your input.  I have used the spot elevation tool but it only gives the dimension so i have to tag the pipe again with the actual pipe type and size which is double the work.  That is why i wanted a parameter for it so i could combine the tag elevation with the size and system.  The Dynamo script i was given allowed me to set up the parameter and add it to my tag.  My issue has been solved unless you guys have influence to get the Revit team to add a bottom pipe and duct parameter.   I just think its such a simple thing to add for something that is industry standard - just not sure why they ignore this and have everyone scramble to work around it.  See image below for what i needed.  This is what my pipe fitters and plumbers wanted.

You could edit the elevation tag by adding labels assigned to the size and system.

That is what i did.  Just needed the proper bottom of pipe parameter which i was given from the Dynamo script.  i was just venting again about that parameter not being available with the standard selection of parameters.
