Applying Dimensions to MEP Fabrication Containment Parts

Anonymous

Hi,

Revit will only allow dimensions to be placed on the centre line of Fabrication containment parts.

This isn't the way cable trays, ladders & baskets are set out on a working drawing.

Dimensions need to be from the outer edge not the centre (native cable trays within Revit allow this).

Any solution?

Thanks

Hello @Anonymous,

Unfortunately, that is not possible at this moment but I totally agree with you that this is important.

Why can we with Cable Tray and Fabrication Parts?

I posted an Idea on the IDEA forum.

You can vote on that and motivate others to vote on this IDEA so it will get the attention of the Autodesk development.

Please see Dimensions from Fabrication parts from the outer edge.

Thanks for your reply @robert.klempau & the post on IDEAS.

Its not only dimensions that are an issue, the very useful 'Align' command will not find this edges either.

These elements are clearly still in development & to only be used after careful consideration.  I will most likely not use them.

I think it's worth to create and vote on existing ideas like this one from @robert.klempau Dimensions from Fabrication parts from the outer edge.

Hello @pawel.romaniuk,

I think that's rather generous to say its a great job when one can neither use the 'Align' tool or dimension them from their outer edges.

They are currently not of practical use.... for me.
