Revit Messaging

Revit Messaging

Ability to be able to communicate/message internally with other users on workshared projects......similar to the communicator in C4R

what is C4R , and what it used for?

This is almost the exact same functionality that C4R is advertised for.  I really don't see this happening, but wish it would be implemented.  Why would Autodesk combine C4R into base Revit, when they can charge a user another $800 per year to pay for it separately?

I'm only talking about enhancing the existing Worksharing Monitor to include some functionality for instant messaging type of interface on a LAN not a cloud based type of service such as C4R (just it's messaging interface)

It's a good idea but it doesn't sound like it belongs inside Revit. Why don't you just get a Slack account for your company and just use that (or similar)? It will be way more powerful than what you could reasonably expect to exist within Revit.

I don't like the idea of Revit becoming a "social" platform.

Do you consider the communicator in C4R something that doesn’t belong in Revit? It’s functionality works well on that platform......it’s not a “social” platform, it only acts as first party communication between specific project team members.

All I care about is that it is NOT inside Revit. A separate app is ok with
me as I don't have to use it. I really want the Factory to concentrate on
core Revit enhancements.

Don't get me wrong though. Communication is very important and anything
that helps us communicate better is a good thing. Just not inside Revit
itself.

Similar idea as C4R CommunicatorSimilar idea as C4R Communicator

@Anonymous I very much disagree with you.  I think communication ABSOLUTELY should be included in the Revit platform (While also having Autodesk focus on the myriad of core issues we see on a daily basis).

From a process perspective, it doesn't make sense to not be able to have some form of review/comment system in 3D and on sheets inside the Revit platform.  And that's why it exists already in the form of C4R.  Unfortunately for those that want it, they have to pony up an extra $800 per year.  Just another great idea that Autodesk has ripped out of the core software and will gladly charge you extra for.

IN MY OPINION IF WE HAVE A COMMUNICATOR TOOL FOR THE WORK SHARING THROUGH THE NETWORK AS IT IS FOR THE CLOUD IT IS VERY POWERFUL AND VERY NICE OPTION AND THANKS

I agree. I was told a while ago that they were going to look into this, but that was about 3 years ago. No changes yet.

One: there are already a host of other communication/messaging services available.  I'd rather Autodesk invest it's development budget in what the program does than duplicating something already available.

Two: SHOUTING LIKE THIS ISN'T POLITE.  Please don't shout.

@dgorsman, you are correct that there are a lot of other communication tools out there. Part of what I like about communicator is that it can compartmentalize the communication specific to projects, and that can be handy.

If Autodesk just combined the Worksharing Monitor and Communicator features that would solve the issues really. It's nice to see who is active in the project and have a line of communication specific to a project and it's even nice to have it only in Revit at times. Also, communicator has been integrated into Revit, while the WSM is still in the Addins tab and often gets forgotten.

I'd also love to be able to use WSM without first opening the file in Revit.

We've had corrupt files where it's not even possible to open the file, but I still need to see who else is still in it.

Good Morning,

All Autodesk products need to be able to have two way communication with file types. Revit, Acad, & Navisworks should be able to import and export to each other. Making this  free flowing will save countless hrs and money for engineers and contractors. Having a program specifically for coordination (Navisworks) that can import Rvt files to NWD but then not have the ability to communicate in reverse NWD to RVT and be loaded into Revit is crazy. Especially when we have a GC/Bim company that works thru dropbox.

I wonder, what do you think Navisworks is meant to be?

What are you doing with AutoCAD that you can't do in Revit?

Ben from what I have seen Navisworks is essentially the mail man/presenter. I'm just saying Autodesk products should be able to talk to each other.

CAUTION: The link in the previous post (by @Anonymous "James") redirects to an odd-looking site with no content (https://revitcommunicator.com/2018/01/04/bim360-docs-revit-addon/ after bypassing the security warnings for non-HTTPS sites) - it may be some kind of scam. thanks @lionel.kai .

We recently rebranded our product from Modelobjects to RevitCommunicator.com. And the redirect from the old domain is not fully working for some reason. Its pointing to one of our old blog pages for some reason.

Anyway, the correct redirect is to: https://revitcommunicator.com .

Always interested in your feedback on the real product.

James.
