Predefined Structural Connection Settings

Predefined Structural Connection Settings

The idea of structural connections within Revit is great. Although the current method of defining a connection can be a bit cumbersome.  What would be amazing would be if we could predefine certain connection configurations for connections that we would commonly use.  This would significantly improve productivity.  There are so many configurations for any given connection, which is great, but at times makes it cumbersome when you have to do the same modifications over and over to create a similar connection type.  I guess what I am saying is if I spend the time to configure a connection type, then I want to be able create a similar connection without having to go through all the different connection configurations.

Agreed

The ability to duplicate the type is available but it doesn't keep the parameters. Only changes the name. Perhaps having the ability to save the parameters to the duplicated type would be a good idea.

I assume there is a vertical software integration reason for why it is set up the way it is.

Great idea @tim.knappSO! I agree that this will improve the modeling capabilities. No ETA yet on when it might be coming but we will be sure to keep everyone posted.

Good job @tim.knappSO! Thanks @haedicu, this will really improve the usability of this nice feature.

This is the reason why I wouldn't advice anybody to use structural connections. And I'll keep referring to a software starting with a "T" to do this level of detail steel modeling.

Hi,

Revit Structural Steel Connections 2017 and on .....

Would it be possible in the future to pre-save the steel connection parameters so that they can be easily applicable to other steel connection?

I know you can do this by copying and paste it to another similar scenario but the if the angle or other elements are different its hard to paste it.

It would be even better if we could transfer these pre-sets from a project to another. 🙂

A similar example would be the printing methodology the way you save the variables for example. so you don't have to go and adjust all the variables every time.

Some times you forget how it was done and you cant spend time to mess around trying to get it right.

merged a new idea to the existing one.

It would be great to have the ability to save a connection configuration to a library for later use again. Imagine having to remember setting of a base-plate connection and redo it 100 times? Why not allow users to place a connection once, change parameters, save it to a library so that the same configuration can be used later again?

100% Agree!  the ability to save structural connections with certain parameters to act as a Family Type is a no brainer.  I have hundreds of connections and each one takes a little time to set the parameters.  This is time wasted!

So, this has been accepted, but is it coming anytime soon?

Hi Team

Has this ability been activated yet?

Not that I have seen or heard about.

Very frustrating to have to adjust each connection one at a time.

In Revit 2020 connections will be grouped, either by using the same type, or even by using propagate connections. This should work much faster, and if you modify one connection, all connections within this group will be updated as well. Did anyone try it, or do you have any feedback?

I have not tried it. I will do so. Thanks for the feedback.

Why it is not yet in Implemented?
